Roller Coaster

Hi all. Michelle here. Unfortunately, Rich isn't up for writing the blog right now. However, we both wanted to update everyone. The last few weeks have been a bit of a roller coaster for Rich-- and a very rough one. He has had ups and downs in feeling ok and feeling bad, but has steadily been feeling more discomfort pain caused by both "MEL's" spread in is body and all of the meds that he is on. Mostly it's been in his stomach, but he also has head pain from the lesions in the brain.

Rich's foe, "MEL," is rapidly starting to debilitate him and it seems to be on a relentless path. In fact, he was admitted to CPMC/hospital yesterday. The doctors and nurses are doing their best to manage his pain and keep him hydrated. He is mostly sleeping, and he gets confused because of all the pain meds and sleeping aids. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they can get everything under control within a few days so he can come home.

One decision that Rich has made is to stop the Temodar/chemo treatment so he can be admitted to hospice care as an outpatient. He had one maybe two cycles left. The hospice will focus on palliative and comfort care, and provide a lot of services that we need at this point in time. This was a BIG and VERY DIFFICULT decision for Rich. We are hoping that the hospice team can make him fell much better and manage his pain for the duration at home.
