Over the past week, our usually quiet little home has become a bustling center, not unlike Grand Central Station. But first, I wanted to let everyone know that all things considered, Rich's first full week home was okay. Overall, I think that he has hit a plateau with the pain and discomfort. We are able to manage it with the current mix of medications. Unfortunately, he is getting weaker so that is tough for all of us.
So back to the Grand Central reference. We had quite a few meetings with our full hospice team this week. We have a social worker, a nurse, and a spiritual counselor/chaplain. Everyone has been especially caring and focused on keeping Rich comfortable. Rich especially looks forward to the home aides who come in a couple of times a week to give him a shower and shave. While the showers really tire him out, he definitely feels good afterwards. On Saturday, a wheelchair was delivered, so Rich has been able to get out of the hospital bed and see the rest of the house including the backyard. Another benefit of hospice, is that all prescriptions can be delivered to our house. There is a small fee, but it is ten times better than being on hold or waiting in the long lines at Walgreens.
Friends and family have come from far and near to visit Rich this week. I can't recall the last time our phone rang so much. Thanks to everyone who has been able to come visit. We are all grateful that Rich has such wonderful friends. He really appreciates everyone thinking of him.

I'd love to visit if Rich is up to it!

Dear Rich, As usual, the Chan-Wittry family is thinking about you every day and wishing you comfort and peace in this very difficult time. I'm sure you know, Michelle and Lucy can count on us for anything they need. They are like family to us (after all, Michelle and I are practically from the same village in China!) Sonya, Tony, Brendan and Derek
