At Peace

I'm heartbroken to let everyone know that Rich passed away this afternoon just before 3pm. After such an inspiring and positive fight, he was no longer able to fight against deadly Mel. His family and I are comforted by the fact that he passed on very peacefully. I had asked Father Steve (the former pastor at our neighborhood Church) to stop by and say a prayer for Rich this morning as he was starting to fade away. Father Steve was joined by Paula ( who plays a soothing harp) and Billie who also brought along her prayer book. Rich's parents were also present. After Father Steve said a final prayer, Rich passed on. It was a sad for us, yet very calming for Rich.

Thanks to everyone who has sent us emails, thoughts, prayers and hugs. I am grateful that we have such a wonderful community and that Rich and I have so many thoughtful and supportive friends. Mostly, I will always cherish the time that Rich was in my life. Nine years ago today, we went on our first date.

As soon as plans are firm, I will post information on services as well as where to send donations (for those who would like to honor Rich's memory).

Oh Michelle,

I am so sad for you. Rich was one of the loveliest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I am so grateful to have been a part of his life, and he of mine, if only sporadically. The ordeal the two of you have been through is finally over, but I am afraid that the hardest part is yet to come. You have had so much strength during these last couple of years, and I know you'll find more to endure what lies ahead. You are obviously surrounded by a loving and generous community of friends and family to support you during this difficult time in which, of course, you know I am one. I am here for you.

Michelle and Lucy,

I’m so very sorry to hear this sad news. Rich was a warm, kind, generous person with a great sense of humor. He was a true inspiration throughout his most recent challenge, even in his final days. His soul will surely live on in all of us whose lives he touched. I’m so grateful to have been even a very small part of his life, and glad that he is at peace now. May God bless you and your family with peace and understanding.

With love and prayers,
-Dave Wilusz

Dear Michelle & Lucy, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Rich is so lucky to have had led the life he did with wonderful friends and an amazing family. We're lucky to have had a chance to know such a caring and fun-loving spirit like Rich. Michelle, I remember how much you changed Rich's life when you started dating, you gave him such happiness and light. The light grew even brighter with little Lucy's arrival and those happy memories will live on forever.

We will miss his him dearly.

Michelle,
I haven't met you yet but want you to know that Rich touched many, many people including me. I met him at Haas and was always inspired by his energy, enthusiasm and integrity. You are truly blessed to have been his wife, and I hope you can be encouraged by the fact that his legacy lives on not only in you and Lucy, but in many others who were enriched by having known him.

Michelle - Although we haven't met, I knew Richie well in high school. We ran Cross Country together and and you get to talk a lot during long runs (and sometimes walks). He was a great guy, but I'm sure that you already know that. I wish you all the best and thank you so much for taking good care of him. All the best to you.
