This is a picture of me in the early 1980s when I used to shave parts of my head, pierce the shaved areas, and follow bands like the Ramones and Iggy Pop around the country.
Wait a minute. I never got those pictures digitized (thank god!).
Oh yeh. Now I remember. This is a picture of me after my recent brain biopsy. Just before I went under, I asked for the Six Million Dollar Man treatment. Maybe a bionic eye or two, so I could lose the glasses.
Unfortunately for me, I forgot to say 'inflation adjusted'. Six million dollars just doesn't buy what it used to back in the 70s. All I got was a partial haircut and some temporary staples! Steve Austin would not be happy.
Hope this doesn't gross anyone out. I thought it was too funny to pass up. It's not every day that you shave off only a portion of your hair.
Anyway, I start my first biochemo treatment tomorrow (Monday, January 14, 2008). I will be in the hospital for a week, then home for 2 weeks, then back in for a week, etc. This should go on for 6 3-week cycles. At the end of the 3rd cycle, we run another full body scan to determine if any new cancer has developed. If not, then we continue. If yes, then we stop and look for something else.
For any of you SF locals, you are welcome to come by to visit. Visiting hours can be found here. I am staying at the Pacific Campus, at 2333 Buchanan Street in SF. The general phone number is 415-600-6000.
Please no food or flowers. The treatment can make patients very sensitive to smell. Thanks for all of the positive thoughts!

Rich,
Clearly, you're starting a trend. :) As always, thanks for the update. Thinking about you during this challenging week of new treatment. Wishing you and the girls the very best!
Hi Rich.
Wishing you the best and keep those positive thoughts flowing --it works!
I also wanted to pass along the name of an oncologist who my mother used for many years. I believe that one of his specialties is metastatic melanoma. His name is Dr. Seymour Cohen, he is located in NYC and he's affiliated with Mt. Sinai hospital. His phone number is: 212-249-9141. He's a fabulous doctor and a lovely person. Please use my name if you call him -- he knows my family very well.
Again, best wishes and take care of yourself.
Regards, Elizabeth Lewison

Rich, your sister, Sharon, is like family to us, and gave us your blog address. I read your blog, you're in the wrong business, move to Hollywood and start writing for some production. Your sense of humor will keep you moving in the right direction. Its like food, continue to feed! You are in our thoughts and prayers, Rob Kraus
