Halloween

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming for something completely different.

While this was Lucy’s second Halloween, it was the first that she could really enjoy. On the Saturday before Halloween, we went to a local mom’s club party at a playground. Lucy noticed a bigger girl having an Elmo painted on her cheek by a woman dressed up as a clown. Lucy wanted one too. She was a little scared of the process and the strange person doing the painting, but she isn’t one to back down. This, despite the fact that the girl in front of her started crying just before the painting began and refused to have it done. Lucy just asked that I sit with her, which I was happy to do!

On Halloween evening, we met up with a few families in a neighborhood not far from our house. There were lots of festive houses and tons of kids dressed up. We would carry Lucy from house to house, then put her down several feet from the door and have her walk up herself. She would walk up to the door, often being knocked aside by older kids leaving the house, take a piece of candy, say thank you, and walk back to us very excited. The first thing she would say was ‘more houses’, as she wanted as much candy as possible. When we passed a house that did not have its lights on, she would say ‘they not home’ in a disappointed tone. There would be no candy coming from those houses, and she knew it!

All in all, a very enjoyable evening.
